What's Cool in the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music?

The Sousa Archives and Center for American Music (SACAM) acquires and preserves significant archival records and historical artifacts in multiple media formats that document America's local and national music history and its diverse cultures. Its collections of personal papers, archival records and museum artifacts document 19th and 20th-century American music and music scholarship produced by national and internationally recognized composers, musicians, conductors, scholars and educators. The Center is home to the worlds’ single largest collection of original music compositions and arrangements by John Philip Sousa. In addition, the Center’s historical collections document the development of the American band movement and the early evolution of electronic and avant-garde music. Among its collections are the John Philip Sousa Music and Personal Papers, c. 1873-1932, A. Harding Papers 1895-1958, Pietro A. Cipollone Music and Personal Papers, 1905-1954, William DeFotis Papers, 1953-2003, Kenneth Gaburo Papers, 1936 and 1945-1993, Carl Busch Music Instrument Collection, 1833-1924, Herbert L. Clarke Papers and Music Instruments, 1880-1945, and the Claude Gordon Music and Instrument Collection, 1888-1992.
